World Mental Health Day 2024
Healthwatch Kingston is committed to improving mental health services in Kingston. We work with a wide range of communities, from young people to those who are seldom heard.
Recently, our engagement with young people shed light on how social media is impacting their wellbeing. In response to a recent survey we carried out at Kingston College Freshers Fayre, we heard that:
43% expressed concerns about how social media affects their self-esteem.
43% were worried about its impact on their body image.
68% said they would like more information on mental health support and services.
Additionally, sleep emerged as a significant concern, which is closely linked to mental health:
73% were concerned about the effect of social media on their sleep.
65% wanted more information on how to improve sleep and access services that support healthy sleep.
