About this event
Kingston Centre for Independent Living (KCIL) are running a Deaf Awareness Workshop.
There are over 12 million people in the UK who are deaf or have hearing loss. This workshop will help businesses, staff, social workers, PAs and all members of the general public:
- Feel confident about communicating with people who are deaf or have hearing loss
- Understand the barriers faced by people with hearing loss
- Work more effectively with colleagues who are deaf or have hearing loss
- Offer a better service to the people they support.
The training will be run by Amelia Berreen, KCIL's Independent Living advisor, who is deaf herself and a British Sign Language (BSL) user. This means you will learn about the personal and lived experiences of the different barriers that deaf people face in their daily lives and how communicate effectively with them.
